Validate kill assumptions before secondary preferences

Classify assumptions by what their failure would do to the proposed direction.

Editorially reviewed

These examples and illustrative results are independently authored teaching materials, not measured model results.

Use case

Plan automatic partner-data import requiring a willing/able provider of machine-readable id/status. Teaching access/sharing permission is unresolved while three button-color preferences exist. Validate direction-killing assumptions before cosmetics.

Mechanism

Classify assumptions by failure consequences: essential direction premise, important adjustable choice and secondary optimization. Use small authorized core probes such as a permitted sample/schema check, not ‘probably available’. Revise or preserve gaps when core fails; validate update model/cosmetics afterward.

Bad example

Test button colors first, assume data/access and continue full implementation even when the required feed is unavailable.

Good example

First inspect whether the partner can/will supply an authorized machine-readable id/status sample. Record source/field/permission/delivery gaps. This is necessary for the current automatic-import direction; if unsupported pause dependent implementation and revise instead of inventing data. Then examine adjustable update cadence, then colors, staying within approved samples.

Why the change matters

Progress on preferences does not establish core feasibility. Consequence-based ordering exposes directional failure before accumulating dependent implementation.

Observable expectation

An illustrative table lists data/sharing as core, cadence adjustable and color secondary. Missing evidence remains unconfirmed; absent status fails this input contract.

The first probe must support/refute direction, not equate a color experiment with feasibility.

Limits

Importance depends on objectives; manual/alternative approaches may redraw assumptions rather than prove all product value impossible. One sample does not establish scale, quality or durable supply. No real partner data is accessed.
